CSIR-IHBT is the only laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in the State of Himachal Pradesh. The research mandate of the institute is sustainable utilization of Himalayan Bioresources in developing end-to-end processes and products. Several products and processes have been transferred to industries. The Institute is also aggressively promoting entrepreneurship development and several incubates are being nurtured here. The institute is presently recognised as one of the Incubation Centres by MSME.
